Ep. #134 – A Catholic Scientist Defends God’s Existence w/ Dr. Verschuuren

Summary

How did a geneticist get so interested in writing about faith and philosophy? Why think God exists? What does science say about the matter? Why think there is a personal first cause? How might one argue for God from universals? If God is all-powerful and almighty in his universal causation, then how can we have free will? Dr. Gerard Verschuuren joins us to tackle these questions and more.

Disclaimers

  • During the interview, Dr. Verschuuren cites the verse Psalm 14:1 (“The fool says in his heart there is no God”) in what sounds like a broad and sweeping way that I would not endorse. I’m more sympathetic to the interpretation expressed by Dr. Josh Rasmussen in this episode (part 1) where I asked him about it.
