Why is God Hidden? 3 Replies to the Atheist

A more to the point response is..

You want God to reveal himself but consider We are here to reveal ourselves.

Is it even possible to be honest to God & yourself in the direct presence of the All Powerful Creator?

When do we put our hand in the cookie jar? In front of Dad or do we wait until he leaves. What we do in secret is who we actually are. Being handcuffed to Jesus could produce a coerced robot.. a pretender.

Doubt seems to be part of the plan. There is a difference between how we reveal ourselves if there’s only a possibility that God is watching verses if He is surely watching.

This Revelation is to *Ourselves even more than the omniscient Lord. It is to our benefit that we know who we are. Searching for a God we hope is there reveals only those who desire Him… The rest are free to say it’s all just bullcrap.. revealing their real desire to God and to themselves.

Thanks for sharing this idea, James. I think you make a good point that the *how we would act* and the character of our choices would be very different in a world where God is not somewhat hidden.

I could only partially agree with this. I think a lot of people simply ignore God or the possibility that He exists. And a lot of those people don’t necessarily think it’s all just crazy, but they’re just distracted with things of the world and don’t consider Him.

Sure, I agree with that. They’re the most frustrating kind.
My idea is more directed at the atheist.

But the sleep walking human is so troubling because they don’t appear deeply hardened against God.. they almost seem to be mindlessly walking toward a cliff. I’d say a huge percentage of the population fall into this category.
Many of these people look or are waiting for external evidence but won’t go directly to God himself.
Ultimately, the question they need to ask God is-Is Jesus who he says he is? Christ himself said what Father would refuse his child, and that He would give the gift of the Holy Spirit to any who ask.
Why they won’t do this is probably different for everyone but I suspect some actually don’t want to know the answer because that requires a drastic change.

“sleepwalking human” is a good description. As Catholic Christians, it’s our job to pray that God uses us as instruments to awake more people from slumber.
